BoF and Demo at Drupal Dev Days for La_eu siteproject

27 April 2026

Join the BoF of the Local Association EU Sites Project to learn about its progress and what we can mean for your local community. The Drupal community is invited to see the platform taking shape, share feedback, and help define what comes next

The Local Association EU Sites Project (La_eu) is hosting an open Sprint Review and Demo session during Drupal Dev Days Athens, presented by the development team of Lemberg who are building the shared Drupal codebase that enables local associations across Europe to launch their own modern Drupal websites.

one codebase for all

The hybrid session takes place at Drupal Dev Days Athens, in Room 5 (BoF) on Friday, from 13:55 to 14:35. Oleh Lopukhovych from Lemberg Solutions will join online to walk through recent work. The session is facilitated in-person by Sven Decabooter and Floris van Geel. The project's Product Owner, Esmeralda Tijhoff, participates remotely. Together they will gather feedback, share project milestones, and discuss the roadmap ahead.

Whether you represent a local Drupal association exploring whether La_eu could work for your community, a contributor interested in shaping the project's direction, or simply someone who wants to see open source collaboration at its best: this session is for you.

What is La_eu?

The Local Association EU Sites Project simplifies the path for volunteer-run local associations to establish a professional Drupal-powered web presence. By offering a shared, maintained codebase, the project eliminates the need for each association to build from scratch, lowering technical barriers and enabling communities to focus on customisation and content rather than infrastructure.

What to expect at the session

The Sprint Review will cover:

  • A live demo by Lemberg of the latest development work
  • An overview of current project status and the associations already live on the platform
  • An open Q&A and space for suggestions
  • A discussion on how new features and functionality should be prioritised and implemented
  • Highlights from the latest sprint

The demo will showcase significant progress across the platform. The codebase has been upgraded to Drupal 11, keeping the project on the leading edge of the Drupal ecosystem. Contributors have also worked on config splits, giving associations greater flexibility in managing their site configurations. New end-user functionality includes a search option and multi-language support, two features that meaningfully expand the usability of the website for large audiences. Alongside these additions, the team has worked through a round of bug fixes, and has produced thorough documentation aimed at both participating associations and new contributors looking to get involved.

About the project

The La_eu project is sponsored by the Dutch Drupal Association, whose support has made this shared platform possible. Development is led by Lemberg, contributing professional expertise to this community-driven initiative. The project is stewarded by Product Owner Esmeralda Tijhoff.
